The Brandywine Festival is brought to life by Middle-earth Adventures — a collaboration between Burgschneider and Middle-earth Enterprises, built on more than two decades of event-making craft and a shared love of Middle-earth.
"To create the world's most meaningful Middle-earth inspired experiences — events that don't just entertain, but genuinely transform the people who attend them."
Founded in Germany in the early 2000's, Burgschneider began as a small team of performers, game designers, and event producers with a single conviction: that truly immersive experiences could change people. Not just entertain them — change them.
Over two decades, that conviction has been tested and proven at hundreds of events across Europe and beyond. From intimate larps for a few dozen players to large-scale productions drawing thousands, Burgschneider has built a reputation for the kind of craft and care that turns a field into a world.
The Brandywine Festival represents the fullest expression of everything we've learned — and the most exciting thing we've ever built.
These aren't aspirational posters on a wall. They're the practical principles that guide every decision we make — from venue selection to the music on the final evening.
Every element of an event exists to serve the world being built. If it breaks immersion, it doesn't belong.
Immersive events should be for everyone. We design every experience to be accessible, inclusive, and genuinely inviting to newcomers.
We'd rather do one thing perfectly than ten things adequately. Quality of experience is always the measure that matters.
Of the venues we use, the communities we work in, and the intellectual property we are privileged to bring to life.
With our guests, our partners, and our team. No overselling. No hidden surprises. Just clarity and follow-through.
The moments that make people gasp, laugh, or quietly cry are never accidents. We engineer wonder, deliberately.
Middle-earth Enterprises owns exclusive worldwide rights to motion picture, merchandise, live stage and services inspired by The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit books, by J.R.R. Tolkien. We have produced and licensed goods based upon these four books, for a half century. Inspired by our deep appreciation for the fictional world created by Professor Tolkien, we are dedicated to working with those developing highest quality creations inspired by the lore, in accordance with state-of-the-art green business and sustainability practices; including fair trade, equality in the workplace, and a deep commitment to protect our Earth, its wondrous beauty, and the viability of every living creature.
As Middle-earth's stewards and custodians, our goal is to consistently deliver a wealth of great content in both new and known formats; to ensure Middle-earth's rightful place as the world's leading fantasy IP & brand, forever.
Visit middleearth.com →Middle-earth Adventures is the official brand under which Burgschneider and Middle-earth Enterprises collaborate to bring authorised, large-scale Middle-earth inspired live experiences to the world. The Brandywine Festival is its flagship event.
Over two decades of immersive event expertise. The production craft, the game design, the community management, the venue relationships, and the team of performers, builders, and storytellers who make it all real.
The official license and the trust that comes with it. The authorisation to bring Tolkien's world to life faithfully, responsibly, and at a scale that no unofficial event could achieve.
Something that couldn't exist without both. A fully authorised, meticulously crafted, deeply immersive world — where 1,000 people spend four days living as Hobbits, and leave genuinely changed by it.
A small group of event producers and game designers begin running immersive live experiences across Europe, building craft and community over two decades.
After years of producing Tolkien-adjacent events, Burgschneider opens formal licensing conversations with Middle-earth Enterprises — laying the groundwork for an authorised partnership.
The official licensing agreement is signed. Middle-earth Adventures is established as the joint brand, and work begins on the first Brandywine Festival concept.
The inaugural Brandywine Festival takes place at Terrapin Hill Farm, Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Sold out. Universally loved. And the proof that the concept worked exactly as imagined.
The Brandywine Festival expands to the United Kingdom for the first time, with its debut at Weston Park, near Telford — bringing The Shire to players across the pond.
The UK festival grows to 1,000 guests at Weston Park. The US festival returns to Terrapin Hill Farm, nearly sold out months in advance. The Brandywine world keeps growing.
